In the old centre of Napoli, as with most cities, space is at a premium. The narrowest streets in the Quartieri Spagnoli see swarms of motorbikes and scooters vying with pedestrians, a situation that gets no easier as the day advances and the cafes and restaurants put their tables out on the streets. Diners rub elbows - almost literally - with two-wheelers passing at speed, while waiters employ well-practised avoidance manoeuvres. And ultimately the food, it must be said, is usually worth the risk of finding a Vespa mirror in your pizza...
