After a gestation period that a blue whale would blush at, An Ordinary Place is finally going to have a presence on the high street, in the shape of a a beautifully put-together, and tiny, gallery and studio near Ocean Terminal in Edinburgh! We're on Ocean Drive, by the tram and bus stops, on the opposite side of the road to the shopping centre.

The new premises are intended to offer opportunities, to as broad a community as possible, to create and/or display photographic images. Rank amateurs, hardened professionals, and all points in between, are welcomed to give it a go at AOP's physical incarnation in north Leith.

Exactly what it will end up looking like isn't set in tablets of stone. Rather, the idea will be to open the doors and see what the creatives of Leith, Edinburgh, and Scotland in general, can bring to the party. There will be discussions, possibly drinks, and definitely much head scratching, and in due course something will happen. Pretty vague, eh? Nothing is off the table...

Currently the studio has a number of backgrounds to play with, and some Bowens monolites that Noah pulled onto the ark just before it floated away. These are supplemented by some reflectors, a useable tripod or two, and some other odds n sods. There are digital and film cameras too, which can be set up for you with a bit of notice.

The gallery is still a work in progress. Actually, I'm only just ordering the hanging system so it might be a couple of months before anything can be displayed. But watch this space.

Do you want to exhibit? It could be a short series of related images. It could be a full exhibition. It could be a snap of your pet dug. Or maybe you'll just want to hire the studio for your own use (see below). Whatever, get in touch via enquiries@anordinaryplace.com and we'll sort you out.

OPENING TIMES ...are a bit variable until we get fully up and running during the first quarter of 2026. However, Studio hire charges, and availability over the next month, can be found here.
